Troubleshooting Suggestions
When your having problems connecting to the internet, loosing connection, or slow connection speeds, test the following:

Phone Jacks/Station Cords
Unplug All Phones
Sometimes a phone will begin having trouble on a level the user will not recognize.  Even though the user is unaware of any problems, it may be enough to influence dial-up internet and interrupt a connection.  To test your phones for trouble, unplug all phones.  Now try to connect to the internet.  If you are able to connect, then one of your phones is bad.  To locate the bad phone, plug one in and attempt to connect to the internet.  After the first phone is plugged in and you are able to connect, repeat the process with each additional phone until you are unable to connect.  Once you are unable to connect, the phone just plugged in is apparently faulty and must be discarded.

Dial Tone at Phone Jack
With a phone (non-cordless type), check to make sure the phone jack your using to connect your computer to the internet has dial tone.  Make certain to use a different station cord than the one currently connecting the computer modem to the jack.  If there is no dial tone in this jack, try connecting your computer to another jack that your certain has dial tone.

Dial Tone Through Station Cord
With a phone (non-cordless type), check to make sure the station cord connecting your computer to the phone jack is passing dial tone.  Make certain to use a different phone jack than the one your currently using to connect the computer to the internet (possibly one from another room).  If the station cord does not pass dial tone, try another station cord.

Another Phone Jack
Even if the tests above pass, try connecting your computer modem to another phone jack in the house (possibly one from another room).  Sometimes a phone jack will pass dial tone, but will still have a small problem influencing your dial-up connection.
