Changing Settings

Spam Filtering
If too much spam is reaching your inbox, try the following:

  • Change your junk e-mail settings by click on "Junk E-mail Settings" found in the top left hand corner of your Postini Message Center console.  There are four categories each with five settings available, varying from lenient to aggressive.  (for additional information, visit "Prevent Spam")

Approving/Blocking Senders (also visit "Spam Filters")
If legitimate messages are not reaching your inbox, try the following:

  • Click on "Junk E-mail Settings" in the top left hand corner of the Postini Message Console and add the e-mail address you wish to approve under the "Approved Senders" list.  (for additional information, visit "Junk E-mail - Approved Senders List")

If spam messages are reaching your inbox with all filtering set to aggressive, try the following:

  • First, you must understand that Postini is updated daily.  It may take a couple of days before the software begins recognizing and filtering new types of spam.

  • Postini also offers settings  to block sender e-mail addresses.  To do this, click on "Junk E-mail Settings" in the top left hand corner of the Postini Message Console and add the e-mail address you wish to block under the "Blocked Senders" list.  The problem with this is spammers usually change their e-mail address every time they broadcast a new spam message.  (for additional information, visit "Junk E-mail - Blocked Senders List")

Notification Settings
If the frequency you receive notifications from Postini concerning viruses is too often, try the following:

  • Click on "Virus Settings" in the top left hand corner of the Postini Message Console and choose the notification setting you prefer from the drop down box under "Notifications".

  • Click "Save".
