Smart Rural Community Recognition
South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (SCRTC) and its communities throughout the 11 counties it serves are nationally recognized as a Smart Rural Community. We are proud to label ourselves with this recognition for the areas we serve. It is through our progressive network that communities and businesses have been able to innovate and thrive. This designation and the resources that made this area eligible for a Smart Rural Community can be used to attract and retain businesses and help our communities prosper.
What is a Smart Rural Community?
It means that the technology available and how our community is using that technology shows that we are a vibrant place in which to live and do business. This designation was earned through an application process with the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA).
How is the Smart Rural Community Recognition Earned?
In order to receive recognition as a Smart Rural Community provider, SCRTC was required to affirm that it:
- Offers 100 Mbps broadband to at least 50% of its service area
- Has broadband subscription rates of at least 50%
- Is committed to program principles of collaboration and innovation
Gig-Certified Provider
Moreover, SCRTC has been designated a “Gig-Certified Provider” in recognition of its ability to provide gigabit broadband speeds to most of its territory. This designation is conferred only upon independent third-party verification of the company’s network capabilities as well as our commitment to community betterment.
A Foundation for Progress
These qualities are foundational to the goals of the Kentucky Rural Broadband Association, which aims not merely to deploy state-of-the-art broadband service to unserved areas but to leverage the capabilities of the network to build benefits for the community.
