Local Roots, Family Values Drive Green Mechanical Construction

Green Mechanical Construction’s story begins the way many American success stories do, at a kitchen table.
Founded in 1983 by Ray and Beatrice Green, the firm grew from a small, local operation into a multistate company delivering multimillion-dollar projects to customers throughout the Southeast. More than 4 decades later, the company’s foundation of relationships, craftsmanship, and community commitment remains unchanged.
Today, President and CEO Wes Simpson describes Green Mechanical in simple terms. “We’re a family-owned company that does HVAC and plumbing and process piping for commercial and industrial projects, and we’ve been doing it for over 40 years,” he says.
People at the Core
Headquartered in Glasgow with additional operations in Lexington and Charlotte, North Carolina, and an expansion planned into Florida, the growing company employs more than 250 people.
Wes credits that success to culture as much as capability. “The biggest part of our success is our people,” he says, noting many employees have spent decades with the organization.
His own path reflects that continuity. Wes began as a teenage plumbing helper before advancing through estimating and operations leadership, becoming the firm’s president and CEO in 2021.
That people-first mindset extends to the communities Green Mechanical serves. The company contributes to major regional projects ranging from health care facilities and schools to large industrial developments, while continuing to support longtime customers with smaller jobs that sustain trusted relationships.
Locally, Green Mechanical invests in the future workforce by sponsoring a local high school plumbing program that allows students to accelerate their path to licensure and begin meaningful careers in the skilled trades. It’s an effort, Wes says, that reflects a broader responsibility to strengthen the American workforce.
Connected for the Future
Behind the scenes, dependable technology infrastructure helps power the company’s increasingly complex operations. South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (SCRTC) provides fiber connectivity along with access control and security systems across Green Mechanical’s Glasgow facilities. “There’s a lot of IT hardware in this building and a lot of cloud-based systems that we use,” Wes says. “Having the internet, the fiber with SCRTC, it is essential to our business.”
SCRTC’s solutions also provide security and accountability. Employees use credentialed access cards for specific areas, while integrated monitoring tracks activity and protects equipment. “They can pull a report and see exactly what time someone got the tools or opened the gate,” says SCRTC Special Equipment Technician Chris Emerson, who helped install the systems. Fiber connections between locations and an audiovisual intercom for visitor verification add protection and efficiency.
For Wes, partnerships like SCRTC’s mirror the values guiding Green Mechanical’s journey. Strong relationships, reliable service, and shared community investment remain central as the company looks toward continued regional expansion and a workforce projected to exceed 300 employees by the end of the decade. “Good people, good customers, and a good quality product,” Wes says, “that’s what leads to something we’re really proud of.”
