South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (SCRTC) celebrated an incredible milestone on July 25 when the telecommunication cooperative marked its 75th anniversary.
The co-op invited members to a birthday bash on the front lawn of the Glasgow headquarters, complete with bounce houses, food trucks, and T-shirt drops from bucket trucks.
“We’re honored to celebrate 75 years of serving South Central Kentucky,” SCRTC General Manager Jeff Eaton told the crowd. “This event is our way of saying thank you to the community that has supported us through every advancement, challenge, and opportunity.”
SCRTC is still rooted in the same values that inspired 5 local residents to establish the cooperative back in 1950. Today, SCRTC provides phone, internet, and television service to a 2,100-square-mile area spanning 11 counties. The co-op serves 13,000 telephone lines, around 8,000 TV households, and over 26,000 broadband subscribers.
The real source of SCRTC’s strength today is the same as it was back in 1950— its people, from that initial group of 5 locals to the more than 130 South Central Kentucky residents who work for the cooperative today, providing state-of-the-art communications services to their neighbors.
“That same spirit still drives us today as we work to bring high-speed internet and advanced technology to every member we serve,” Eaton says.
