Managed Wi-Fi Service Goes Wherever You Go

SCRTC’s Managed Wi-Fi can build a network to fit any size property.

Story by Drew Woolley

The special equipment department at South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (SCRTC) has seen remarkable technological advancements since the company began in 1950. But the growth of Managed Wi-Fi over the past few years has been especially rewarding for business customers, giving them access to broadband internet services and industry-grade Wi-Fi solutions.

“People have become accustomed to businesses providing Wi-Fi to their customers, and SCRTC can provide that,” says Special Equipment Technician Chuck Jones, who has been with SCRTC for over 20 years. “Knowing our customers now have the potential to get Wi-Fi out to a barn or a shop building or even across their field makes it rewarding to find solutions for them.”

Whether it’s Wi-Fi for a home or seamless internet connectivity for a large corporation, SCRTC’s Managed Wi-Fi services can help.

Agricultural Connection

Many of SCRTC’s customers are farmers who need a connection as strong in a barn as it is at home. Our Wi-Fi experts set up a point-to-point system allowing a farmer to monitor a grain dryer from anywhere, just by using an app on his phone. SCRTC has also deployed Wi-Fi solutions for farmers raising dairy cows and chickens who need cameras to monitor livestock and stay in touch with their employees across the facility.

Plug & Play It

For businesses of any size, SCRTC’s Managed Wi-Fi offers an easy path to a reliable and secure connection. “If a business doesn’t have a full IT department or doesn’t know how to take care of those things themselves, that’s where our department can step in,” Chuck says. “We can accommodate their needs with Managed Wi-Fi and network solutions to help them stay connected and productive.”

Convenient Security

Managed Wi-Fi services can even help secure property. Many customers use Wi-Fi-enabled controls to remotely open or close a gate when people or animals need to get in and out. Chuck recalls working with 1 customer who put a smart plug on his electric fence box. Now, rather than trekking back and forth to the barn every time he needs to turn the power off, he can do it with a few taps on his phone.

Connected Campgrounds

SCRTC’s community includes many families who are avid campers. Often, the objective is to get as far away from the modern world as possible, but effective Wi-Fi doesn’t hurt either. Chuck’s family is part of that group. Their recent trips have included visits to Connection Where You Need It Managed Wi-Fi service goes wherever you go, Barren River Lake, and even Yellowstone and Glacier national parks. “My kids get to go fishing, ride their bikes, go hiking, kayaking, and do all the things that come with a good campground,” he says. “But Wi-Fi at a campground is always a hit.”

Nearby campgrounds like Brier Creek and Paddle Trail understand this and rely on SCRTC’s managed Wi-Fi for their own operations and to provide convenient service for their visitors.
