How to Use Calling Features

Call Waiting/Cancel Call Waiting

Call Waiting is a way of telling you someone is trying to call while you are on another call.

To Use:

  • Listen for the short beep.
  • Press the switchhook or flash button to put first caller on hold.
  • Pressing the switchhook or flash button will allow you to
    alternate between calls.
  • To terminate either call, hang up. Your telephone will ring
    again. Answer it to return to the other caller.

Call Forwarding All

You can forward all your calls to wherever you are going.

To Forward All Calls:

  • Dial *72, then dial telephone number to which calls will be forwarded.
    • If local number just dial 10-digit number.
    • If long distance number then dial 1+ 10-digit number.
  • Two (2) beep tones will then be heard indicating the calls have
    been forwarded successfully.
  • Then hang up.

To Cancel Call Forwarding All Calls:

  • Dial *73, then listen for two beeps. Hang up.

Call Forwarding Busy

If your phone line is busy, this service routes the call to voicemail or another number.

  • Dial *65, then dial telephone number to which calls will be forwarded.
    • If local number just dial 10-digit number.
    • If long distance number then dial 1+ 10-digit number.
  • Two (2) beep tones will then be heard indicating calls have
    been forwarded successfully.
  • Then hang up.

To Cancel Call Forwarding Busy:

  • Dial *85, then listen for three beeps. Hang up.

Call Forwarding Don’t Answer

If you’re too busy to answer the phone, this service routes your non-answered calls to voicemail or another number to take a message for you.

  • Dial *68, then dial telephone number to which calls will be forwarded.
    • If local number just dial 10-digit number.
    • If long distance number then dial 1+ 10-digit number.
  • Two (2) beep tones will then be heard indicating the calls have
    been forwarded successfully.
  • Then hang up.

To Cancel Call Forwarding Don’t Answer:

  • Dial *88, then listen for three beeps. Hang up.

(The standard amount of rings on Call Forwarding Don’t Answer is 3. However, that can be changed by contacting your customer service representative.)

Call Forwarding Fixed

This service allows you to forward all incoming calls to a predetermined number that is programmed by South Central.

  • Dial *72, then listen for two beeps.
  • At that time calls are forwarded to a number pre-assigned by the customer with South Central.

To Cancel Call Forwarding Fixed:

  • Dial *73, then listen for two beeps. Hang up.

Call Forwarding All Remote Activation

This service allows you to forward or un-forward all your calls when you are away.

To Remotely Activate/Deactivate Call Forwarding All Calls:

  • Dial 270-614-7224 or 270-537-7224 and follow the recorded instructions.
    • (A PIN number programmed by South Central or as changed by you dialing the change pin code of *319 must be used with this feature.)
  • After entering Call Forward service activation Code (Ex. *72) you will receive stutter dial tone. At this time enter the 10-digit local phone number or 1 + 10-digit phone number if long distance. If completed correctly you should receive two beeps to indicate calls have been forwarded.

Three-Way Calling

Now you can talk to two people at the same time.

To Use:

  • Place call to the first party and announce that you are ready to get second party on the line.
  • To hold the existing call, press the switchhook or flash button for a second.
  • Listen for three beeps and a steady dial tone.
  • Dial the third number.
  • After third party answers, depress the switchhook or the flash button for a second, to connect all three parties together to begin Three-Way Conferencing.

To Cancel:

  • Press the switchhook or the flash button twice. Only the original party is on the line.
  • If either party that you have on conference hangs up, the Three-Way Calling is discontinued.
  • Hang up.

Do Not Disturb Service

South Central furnishes a recording stating you wish to not be disturbed at this time.

To Activate:

  • Dial *78, recording confirms Do Not Disturb feature is now on.
    Hang Up.

To Cancel:

  • Dial *79, recording confirms Do Not Disturb feature is now off.
    Hang Up.

Call Hold Inquiry

This feature allows the customer to put an existing call on hold. The line then becomes free to originate another call.

To Activate:

  • Press flash button or depress switchhook, dial *90#.
  • The line then becomes free to originate another call.
  • After connecting you can then hit flash-hook again to switch back to the first call (putting the second call on hold), and again to switch between the two numbers.

Speed Calling 8

Speed Calling allows you to call selected telephone numbers quickly by dialing an assigned code.

To Set Up:

  • Listen for dial tone.
  • Dial *74
  • Enter Speed Calling code (2-9) and desired 10-digit telephone
    number, then listen for two beeps.
  • Hang up.

To Dial:

  • Dial desired Speed Calling code, then press # or wait for a 4 second timeout.

Speed Calling 30

Speed Calling allows you to call selected telephone numbers quickly by dialing an assigned code.

To Set Up:

  • Listen for dial tone.
  • Dial *75
  • Enter Speed Calling code (20-49) and desired telephone
    number, then listen for three beeps.
  • Hang up.

To Dial:

  • Dial desired Speed Calling code (20-49), then press # or wait for a 4 second timeout.

Automatic Recall

Automatic Recall enables you to call the last incoming call without having to know the actual number.

  • Lift the receiver and dial *69. This will give you an announcement of the last number that tried to call you.
  • To activate a recall to the announced number, dial 1 and wait for that party to answer.
  • If a busy signal is received, hang up and your call will be retried for 30 minutes.
  • If it becomes idle, your phone will ring a distinctive ring alerting you to pick up so the call can be completed.

To Cancel all outstanding calls, dial *89.

Automatic Callback

Automatic Callback enables you to automatically redial the last outgoing call.

From home phone:

  • Lift the receiver and dial *66.
  • Cancel all outstanding callback attempts, dial *86.

Customer Originated Trace

Originated Trace will allow you to request a trace of an obscene, threatening or harassing call. This requires a subpoena to retrieve the information of calls.

  • Hang up after receiving the annoying call.
  • Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.
  • Dial *57, then listen for announcement.
    • (After requesting a Trace, you should call South Central if you want the call to be investigated further. Please call before the end of the next business day.)

Selective Call Forwarding

Selective Call Forwarding allows you to create a list of phone numbers that are to be forwarded when called and you are away from home.

  • Dial *63, listen to the voice instructions which will guide you through the steps of how to:
  • Turn Selective Call Forwarding on or off.
  • Make changes to your Selective Call Forwarding list.
    • Dial If you want to:
      • 0: Repeat the instructions
      • 3: Turn service off/on
      • 1: Review the numbers on your list

Immediately after hearing a number listing dial 07 to delete that entry. While in list review dial 3 to turn Selective Call Forwarding on.

  • # Add a number to your list
  • * Delete a number from your list

Selective Call Rejection

Selective Call Rejection allows you to create a list of phone numbers from which you do not wish to receive calls. Calls from this list would receive an announcement that informs the caller that you are not receiving calls from them at this time.

  • Dial *60, listen to the voice instructions which will guide you through the steps of how to:
  • Turn Selective Call Rejection on or off.
  • Make changes to your Selective Call Rejection list.
    • Dial If you want to:
      • 0: Repeat the instructions
      • 3: Turn service off/on
      • 1: Review the numbers on your list

Immediately after hearing a number listing dial 07 to delete that entry. While in list review dial 3 to turn Selective Call Rejection on.

  • # Add a number to your list
  • * Delete a number from your list

Selective Call Acceptance

Selective Call Acceptance allows you to screen incoming calls by creating a list of phone numbers from which you want to accept calls. Calls not on this list would receive an announcement that informs the caller that you are not receiving calls from them at this time.

  • Dial *64, listen to the voice instructions which will guide you through the steps of how to:
  • Turn Selective Call Acceptance on or off.
  • * Make changes to your Selective Call Acceptance list.
    • Dial If you want to:
      • 0: Repeat the instructions
      • 3: Turn service off/on
      • 1: Review the numbers on your list

Immediately after hearing a number listing dial 07 to delete that entry. While in list review dial 3 to turn Selective Call Acceptance on.

  • # Add a number to your list
  • * Delete a number from your list

Calling Number Delivery

Calling Number Delivery lets you see the calling party’s number before answering a call. A special display device is required to allow you to view the calling number. Wait for the start of the second full ring of your phone set for the number to appear.

Calling Name Delivery

Calling Name Delivery lets you see the calling party’s name, number, date and time of call before answering a call. A special display device is required to allow you to view the calling name, number, date and time of call. Wait for the start of the second full ring of your phone set for the number to appear

Calling ID Block Per Call

Calling Name/Number Delivery can be blocked or unblocked on a per call basis.

To Activate Caller ID Block:

  • Dial *67 preceding the regular numbers to complete call.

Calling ID Block Per Line

(Residential Only)

Customers purchasing non-published service have the option to include permanent Caller ID Blocking at no extra charge.

To Activate Caller ID Delivery:

  • Dial *82 preceding the regular numbers to complete call. (If the party your calling has Anonymous Call Rejection you must dial the *82 to get through).

Caller ID Delivery With Call Waiting

  • Requires a special Caller ID unit or telephone.
  • While on a call, your caller ID unit or phone will show the number or name or both of the second party that’s calling, depending on which service you have.

Distinctive Alert Service

This feature can be beneficial where a telephone line is shared with fax, data, teenager, etc. South Central’s switch will allow two Distinctive Alert Services (additional numbers) to be added to the main number.

  • Party Number 1:
    • Ringing code: Standard (Main)
  • Party Number 2:
    • Short Short
  • Party Number 3:
    • Short Short Long

All local and toll billing is to the main number.

A standard directory listing may be provided with this feature at no charge.

Distinctive Alert With Call Forwarding

This service allows you to forward the main number only or allows you to forward the main number and the distinctive alert numbers associated with this service. This choice is made at time of service request.

  • Follow normal call forwarding instructions

Toll Restrict Control With PIN

Toll Restriction w/PIN allows customers to have control on what long distance calls can be originated from their home or office. Requires a pin # of your choice input by an SCRTC Service Representative.

  • Dial 1 + Area Code + 7-digit number you wish to dial.
  • After receiving two beeps enter PIN, call will complete as dialed.

To Change PIN Number:

  • Dial *319# and follow directions in changing your pin #.

Anonymous Call Rejection

This service allows the called party to reject calls marked private by calling name/number delivery block.

  • Dial *77#, listen for activation.
  • Dial *87#, listen for confirmation.
